It’s been said that poker is easy to learn but hard to master. Mastering any poker game is a fun and challenging goal. In the poker strategy section, you will find many resources to help you become a winning poker player. This page features general poker advice and strategy as well as links to poker strategy and tips for other poker games.

The basics of solid poker strategy involve many concepts that you must combine to become a consistently winning player. The following concepts are crucial to learning poker strategy:

Tight play
Aggressive play
Random play
Taking advantage of opponents’ mistakes

Keep these concepts in mind as you develop as a poker player. These strategic concepts are like the colors on an artist’s palette: the basic colors are the same, but the artist’s use of them is unique and stylistic.

Firstly, probably the easiest of the poker tips and tricks I can give you revolves around position at the table. The later position you are, or closer to the dealer button but not past the blinds, the more hands you can play. The reason for this, is that having position on your opponents means that you can use their decisions to make the best possible decision yourself given how the table plays out. This means that it's harder for your opponent to read your hand as he has to make the first move, and therefore it is more profitable to play a wider range of hands which confuses your opponent even further.

Select the right game for your skill level and pocket: Don't jump into a game with higher stakes just because you just won an easier one. It's better to be the best player at an easier table than the loser at the harder one.

Don't play when you are emotional: You won't play your best if you play "on tilt" -- playing emotionally, not rationally. If you lose your cool during a game, take time out to calm down -- otherwise, you risk having other players pick up on your state of mind and take advantage of you.

Be willing to fold more often: Don't feel like you have to play every hand - you will only lose more this way. If you are dealt a poor hand, don't stick with it hoping to improve it. If you are obviously beaten, be willing to part ways with your hand, no matter how good it was when it was dealt, or how much money you've put into the pot.

Pay attention to the other players: Watch other players, even if you've already folded. Watch for patterns, player reactions, and body language. File this information in your mind and use it when you need it.

Great advice! I don't play poker in casinos but I sometimes play with friends in parties for fun and now, I believe I'll be a force to be reckoned with :p
