Discarding
When you are choosing which cards to discard you must take great care and spend some time selecting the correct ones. The first and foremost thing you should do is get rid of cards that are of no use to yourself.

You will also find that most players will discard their high value cards first to reduce their count of dead wood cards.

Drawing
The best skill you can acquire when playing Gin Rummy is drawing the right cards as by doing so this will greatly effect the outcome of the game.

The best tip especially at the start of the game is to always draw cards from the stock pile as by doing so your opponent won't be able to keep track of your cards

Knocking
When you are playing in a Gin Rummy tournament it is always advisable to catch your opponents off guard and do so by knocking as a way to accumulate points instead of waiting for a Gin, an in Ring games knocking early will avoid you being undercut.

Vigilance
Always keep you eye on the game and never take it off it! Vigilance is important and allows you to track which cards your opponents discard and pick up, and by always paying attention you will be one step ahead of your opponent and be aware of which cards they hold.

Ring Games
You may be unaware but in ring game the players do not accumulate any points so with this in mind you would be best advised to wait for a Gin in ring games as you will be rewarded with more money by doing so.
